The Best of Frederick Pohl
Published in Hardcover by Taplinger Pub Co (October, 1977)
Average review score:

A great introduction to a classic SF writerDue to Pohl's other careers as both a literary agent and a SF magazine editor, Pohl didn't achieve the same amount of output as his contemporaries Asimov, Heinlein, and Clarke. This is our loss, since Pohl really excelled in the short form (not that he is any slouch at novel length). This "best of" collection is an excellent starter for anyone unfamiliar with Pohl's short stories. There's not a clinker in the bunch.

Best of the West: Telephone Pioneers of America
Published in Paperback by The Cookbook Marketplace (July, 1997)

Best of the WestTo those of you who love to cook, this book is a must. One of the better cook books my wife has, and she has over one hundred cook books in her collection.

The Biafra story
Published in Unknown Binding by Penguin ()
Average review score:

Best of Biafran history booksForsyth does an excellent job in this book. He understands that it is necessary to examine closely the social, political, and tribal underpinnings in the conglomeration known as Nigeria, in order to fully understand the Biafran secession in context. Without being polemical he systematically examines these areas and offers compelling reasons for the war, instead of automatically resorting to specious Marxist or other dogmatic reasoning. The Nigerian Civil War was an important and tragic event, and Forsyth does a thorough and careful job of explaining it to us.

Bitter Blood
Published in Paperback by Signet (January, 1994)
Average review score:

YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP...This is about as engrossing a true crime book as one can get. Well researched and compellingly written, it tracks the story of three families whose lives intertwine only to culminate in boodshed. It is a story that will enthrall the reader, as well as tug at the reader's heartstrings, because of the tragic familial implications.
At the heart of the horror that this book reveals is a beautiful southern belle, Susie Sharp Newsom Lynch, who together with her first cousin and lover, Fritz Klenner, the mentally unbalanced son of a prominent doctor, goes on to be involved in unspeakable acts. It is a riveting book that will keep the reader turning the pages and is one of the best books in the true crime genre.

Blessed Sacrament
Published in Paperback by Tan Books & Publishers, Inc. (June, 1988)
Average review score:

Review from the PublisherTHE BLESSED SACRAMENT. 463 Pp. PB. Impr. Fr. Faber inspires here a reverential awe and love for God's "greatest work," "the compendium of all miracles," and "Queen of the Sacraments." Affirms that the Blessed Sacrament is "the picture of God," "the Magnet of souls" and "the life of the Church." Includes great insights into the Theology of Transubstantiation (a doctrine often denied today), and describes Our Lord's 5 Eucharist Sufferings and the reparation we should make. As usual, Fr. Faber ranges over the entire Catholic Faith in this work, enlightening our minds and inflaming our souls with a more deeply Catholic outlook on life.

The Blind Bat CockpitThis book takes you to the cockpit of a C-130A flying Blind Bat flare missions. I thought I knew everything there was to know about Blind Bat, but this book proved me wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. If I had to make any complaint I wish it was much longer.

This book contains a truly spectacular collection of historical pictures. It's obvious a lot of effort was put into this book. Blueprint for Space: Science Fiction to Science Fact
Published in Hardcover by Smithsonian Institution Press (January, 1992)
Average review score:

A fascinating view of the future from the pastThis book is a fascinating and interesting book where the editors and the authors tell the story of going from the science fiction of space to the reality of space science. The greatest parts are when Walt Disney and Wherner von Braun worked together and created the first series of TV programs in the 50's that generate a great deal of interest that even President Eisenhower asked Disney for a copy of the show. A "must" for people interested in the history of Space Age.
This book is valuable reading; no doubt about it. But while I agree that competencies help narrow the gap between the 'ivory tower' and the fast-forward world of competitive edges, let's not forget the instructor's road warrior experiences, which can make or break the classroom-workplace connection. Let us also keep in mind that there are some very valuable concepts and information that you only will learn about in the classroom. Review by Gerry Stern, author of Stern's SourceFinder: The Master Directory to HR and Business Information and Resources and Stern's CyberSpace SourceFinder.
